Local Walks

Starting at:

The Bull & Butcher, Holloway Lane, Turville, Henley-On-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 6QU.

Beech Woods Loop – short. (20 mins).  Moderate uphill and downhill walking taking in views of Hambleden Valley and the windmill.

From the Bull & Butcher, walk past church north out of the village.  Take first left after The Vicarage as you enter the woods.  Follow footpath around outside of field towards the bench where a short rest can be taken to take in the  beautiful views of the windmill and the Chiltern Ridge from Stokenchurch. Adjacent to the bench is a path taking you back towards the village over a style and through some woodland.  Over another style and into a field with views across the Hambleden Valley.  Walk down the hill to the left, over the style and left through a gate into some light woodland.  This path brings you back into the village from the School end.

On this walk you are quite close to the Barn Cafe - worth visiting especially if you  like Land Rovers and conceptual art!

Windmill loop via Fingest (medium - 40 mins) or via Ibstone House (long - 1hr 30 mins).  Steep uphill climb to windmill.

From the Bull & Butcher, head towards the church taking right hand turn up stoney path before the green.  Follow this path straight up to the windmill sticking to the line of the fence (to the left of the fence).  Admire the views from the top!  Then take gate onto road – turn right down the road, about 50 yards from the bottom, there is a path into some light woodland on the right – take this path and follow back into the village.

Extend this walk by taking a path off the road to the left (opposite windmill house entrance).  Down very steep hill, take a right at the bottom onto Chequers Lane (turn right).  You will enter Fingest, turn right at the junction, then take path shortly after church on the right. This will take you onto road from windmill – follow path home as above.

An alternative path turning left after the very steep hill takes you along Harecramp, where you follow the path to Ibstone House turning left up a fenced path through a field.  Turn right when you reach the road at the top, then after 50 yards, take a path left into Park Wood – follow this path all the way back to Turville.

"This place is amazing. The little village is so picturesque its unreal. There is a windmill if you fancy a stroll up the hill which is amazing. The local pub was outstanding and very welcoming.

A wonderful place to visit and we will be back. Food was lovely, and the booze".

"Our local walking group finished an anniversary walk with lunch in the pub for 30 people. It is a lovely old fashioned pub in a pretty Buckinghamshire village made famous in many TV series and films. The service was very friendly and effecient.

Our various pre-ordered food choices were served promptly and were generous portions. Log fires added an extra feel of cosiness. It made for a very memorable day".
